About the Bashors

We are a working ranch, located on the northeastern plains of Colorado. It’s true ranch country where you can see as far as the eye will let you. It provides an opportunity for horses to travel freely. This sale is featuring 50+ geldings, all guaranteed sound and reliably represented. We have been having sales since 1982. This is not a consignment sale; we invite a few people whom we know and that we know will guarantee their horse as we guarantee ours. We began with the premise that you could buy an honest horse from us and we have continued this premise. This has created an atmosphere where buyers feel confident in our horses.

We started having sales in 1982, at first because we had too many horses and our country was dry. Since then it has become a way of life with us. We like the challenges of getting these young horses going, of seeing the older horses improve, and we also like the people with whom we have come in contact. We have tried to build a reputation based on trust and integrity. We try to describe the horses the way they are and we try to help the prospective buyer match him or herself with the horse to the best of our ability.

Is there anything cuter than foals in the spring?

The day we took the pictures for the front page of the web site, Clay, 6, and Hannah, 5, were also there. Hannah had gotten wet from the rain so Clay came over to give her a hug to keep her warm. Here came the new puppy, “Mader”, wanting a part of the hugging.

What do we want in our horses?

The first thing we want is a good disposition. We don’t want to have to take these horses to the round pen to get on them every day. We want them to be "user friendly" and to do a good job at whatever they are asked to do.

Another thing you can expect from a Bashor horse is straight legs and the ability to travel the country, be it mountains or plains. A word of caution: our horses don’t see much running water and they might be a little afraid at first, but ease them into it and we think they’ll do just fine. It’s not their fault that our creek runs only sporadically!

We like our horses to be athletes. We want them to have enough speed to catch up with a cow and enough "cow" bred into them to be able to turn one when they need to. We want them to have the ability to get their legs under them so they can handle themselves.

We like color and we think most people do too. We started out with gray horses not because of their color but because we liked the athleticism of the Quick M Silver horses . . . and we discovered that most people like to ride a horse that stands out. We don’t breed only for color but we’re sure happy when we get a foal that’s straight legged and buckskin or palomino.

What can you expect from us?

That’s an easy question . . . honesty about the horses and the integrity to stand behind them. We don’t want to sell you a horse that you don’t get along with. The customer is our best advertisement. Every year we put a saying in our catalog: "If you buy a horse and like him, tell your neighbor; if you don’t get along with him, tell us. We are the ones who will do something about it."
